Bombfish are a living counterpart to water bombs. They look exactly the same as an armed water bomb, being a toothy cyan fish carrying a bomb in its mouth.

History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, bombfish appear in a mazelike room near the end of the Lakebed Temple, where they dig from the sand one at a time in places near underwater bombable rocks. They act fairly similar to skullfish, following Link aggressively when nearby and dealing tiny amounts of damage owing to their small size. If attacked, they effectively become a lit water bomb, being knocked away, ceasing to swim, and exploding shortly thereafter. They are then replaced by another; their purpose here simply seems to be to ensure the player will not run out of chances to destroy the boulders. Later, they appear in the boss battle against Morpheel and certain dig caverns.

Using the Fishing Rod, it is possible to catch them, adding them to Link's water bomb total. Like skullfish, they are "forbidden," so they are not recorded in the fish journal.

Hyrule Warriors series[edit]

In Hyrule Warriors Legends and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, Bombfish are one of the various types of food for fairies. They are used as the icon to represent the "weird" food group.
