Gohma Larvae, also known as Young Gohmas, are a juvenile form of Gohma that usually appears assisting or otherwise nearby an adult Gohma. Unlike grown Gohmas, their exoskeletons have not become hard enough to withstand blows from normal weapons, and as such they do not need to be attacked in the eye.

History

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Gohma Larvae appear solely inside the Deku Tree, where they always hatch from Gohma Eggs. Like the main Gohma in the game, they are bipeds. The eggs fall to the floor from above and hatch on impact. Gohma Larvae are the first enemy in the game to be both actively aggressive and mobile. They approach Link before turning their eyes red and leaping at him to attack. When hit by Link, a Gohma Larvae will run away briefly before preparing to attack again. If Link attempts to hit one with a stab move, it quickly slides backwards to avoid it.

Only three need to be encountered, found in a round room of the basement, and even this encounter can be avoided by destroying the eggs on the ceiling with the Fairy Slingshot. Later in the battle against Gohma, it can lay eggs that hatch into more Gohma Larvae if it is allowed to stay on the ceiling long enough during the fight itself. In Master Quest, the number of Gohma Eggs in the dungeon has increased to the point of Gohma Larvae being its most populous enemy, and some even appear in Dodongo's Cavern.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

In The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, Gohma Larvae assist Gohma in the second part of its fight in the Dancing Dragon Dungeon. Rather than hatching from eggs, these Gohma Larvae are born live from Gohma's underside. Usually, about five are spawned at a time, though there is some variation. These Gohma Larvae are much smaller than previously and come in four colors. The red and green ones hop after Link, with the former sticking to him in a similar manner to Gels and the latter causing damage, while the blue and orange ones slide around the room after him to damage him, with the former following him deliberately and occasionally stopping and the latter following more erratically and never stopping. All can be destroyed by a single sword attack.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Young Gohmas appear in the Temple of Time. They act similar to in Ocarina of Time, but no longer hatch from eggs, instead appearing out in the open, patrolling a small area. Once again, they approach Link before pouncing at him, though their eyes no longer change color and they no longer fall back after being attacked. An even smaller type of Gohma, the Baby Gohma, takes their previous role as hatchlings and appear in very large groups.
