Artwork of a heart from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

Hearts, also known as Recovery Hearts, are units that represent Link's health via the Life Energy in most games of The Legend of Zelda series, starting with the first game. They are also items, and among the most common in the game. Link can obtain them through various means, and there is a chance he can obtain a heart by picking up a rock, cutting grass, breaking pots, or defeating an enemy. Like Rupees, if Link does not pick up a heart, it eventually disappears. If Link collects a Heart Container, another heart unit is added to Link's Life Energy.
