In''[[The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time]]'', Business Scrubs act similar to normal Deku Scrubs in that they spit nuts at [[Link]] from a distance and hide in the ground when approached. When the nuts are deflective or the enemy is otherwise attacked, however, it uproots and stands still, allowing Link to speak to them. If he does so, they will offer to sell him items, usually for a higher price than they are otherwise. If Link refuses or does not have enough [[Rupee]]s, they simply leave, though if he buys, they also drop three [[Heart|Recovery Heart]]s (or green Rupees if he is at full health). Certain Business Scrubs sell unique wares and do not respawn after these are bought; these are one upgrade each for the [[Deku Nut]] and [[Deku Stick]] carrying capacities, as well as a [[Piece of Heart]]. They can be found in early dungeons, outside in the [[Lost Woods]] when Link is a child, in various [[Secret Cave|grotto]]s throughout [[Hyrule]], and in a hidden room [[inside Ganon's Castle]].

In ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask]]'', Business Scrubs only appear as friendly characters and have been redesigned to have larger bodies with propellor-like leaves the hide under conical hats. Business Scrubs in this game are members of the [[Business Scrub Association]] and appear in specific [[Deku Flower]]s they are appointed to throughout [[Termina]]. While most sell items, two others operate the [[Deku Scrub Playground]] in [[Clock Town]], and another in town is sold out. Most of them want to move to another location, which is done through a [[trading sequence]] involving various [[Title Deed]]s, giving Link access to the Deku Flower (in turn leading to one [[Piece of Heart]] each) and allowing him to trade it for another; a running gag has them also being dissatisfied with the new location in some manner, with the exception of the one moving to [[Southern Swamp]] as that is his homeland. In certain locations, Business Scrubs only sell to local races, though after moving, they always sell to any of Link's forms.

To start the trading sequence, Link must provide the sold-out Business Scrub a [[Moon's Tear]], which he wants as a souvenir for his wife, and in return he provides Link the [[Town Title Deed]]. This in turn can be given to the one in the Southern Swamp, who sells [[Magic Bean]]s to Deku Scrubs. He trades the Town Title Deed for the [[Swamp Title Deed]], which can be given to the one at [[Goron Village (The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask)|Goron Village]], who sells the [[Biggest Bomb Bag]] to [[Goron]]s. He trades for the [[Mountain Title Deed]], which can be traded to the one in [[Zora Hall]], who sells [[Green Potion]]s to Zora, for the [[Ocean Title Deed]]. This one can be given to the one in [[Ikana Canyon]], who sells [[Blue Potion]]s and does not provide a title deed upon leaving.

Additionally, if Link looks through the telescope at the [[Astral Observatory]] during the daytime long enough, a Business Scrub flies out of the city and into a nearby grotto. If Link investigates afterward, it is revealed to be his secret storage area, and he bribes Link to not tell anyone by selling him a Piece of Heart for 150 Rupees, which can be haggled down to 100 Rupees. Whether he accepts or not, the Business Scrub decides it is safer to move to a new hideout and leaves for the rest of that three-day cycle.

In both ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons]]'' and ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages]]'', Business Scrubs appear sporadically as friendly characters, hiding under uncuttable [[bush]]es that look the same as normal ones. If spoken to, they offer to sell to Link, usually for a high price. In the former game, they have a wide-but-sparse across [[Holodrum]], appearing in [[Spool Swamp]], [[Mt. Cucco]], and in certain dungeons. In the latter game, they only appear in [[Deku Forest (The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages)|Deku Forest]] aside from one on [[Crescent Island]], and always sell [[shield]]s. Unlike previous games, they appear to lack arms, making them look like standard Deku Scrubs.

In ''[[The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap]]'', Business Scrubs appear both as friendly characters and as enemies, with the latter acting similar to how they do in ''Ocarina of Time''. They again lack arms and have their hats from ''Majora's Mask''. The first one is encountered early in the game as a tutorial for the [[Small Shield]]; once defeated, he apologizes and says he accidentally spits seeds when he talks sometimes. Throughout the game, Business Scrubs with varying personalities can be found selling various items, usually in caves and for high prices.
