-In ''The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time'', Epona has an optional role, as obtaining her is not required. Link can only ride Epona as an adult. Riding her allows Link to travel faster around the [[overworld]], especially on Hyrule Field. Epona is required for the [[Horseback Archery Range]], and she is an alternative for crossing the broken bridge in [[Gerudo Valley]]. Epona cannot enter towns or dungeons, and if Link plays Epona's Song outside those locations, he can summon Epona. As Link rides Epona, her stamina is represented by six [[carrot]]s. Link can whip Epona for a temporary speed boost, although this uses up a carrot of her stamnia. After a few seconds, Epona's stamina replenishes. The [[Fairy Bow]] is the only weapon Link can use while riding Epona.
