Bots behave similarly to their red counterpart, [[Bit]]s, except that Bots can jump. Both enemies are among the weakest ones that [[Link]] encounters during the game. They appear throughout the plains and caves of [[Western Hyrule]] and at [[Death Mountain]]. They also appear within palaces. When Link approaches a Bot, it attempts to jump at him. He can defeat a Bot by hitting it with the [[Magical Sword]]. It initially takes two hits to defeat a Bot, but if Link gains enough [[Experience]] for his first Attack upgrade, he can defeat one in a single hit. In caverns, some Bots fall from the ceiling in the shape of a drop, and upon landing on the ground, they form into their usual shape. If Link defeats a Bot, it may either drop a blue [[Magic Jar]] or a 50 EXP [[Treasure Bag]]. Link obtains 2 EXP by defeating a Bot.

In the [[Great Palace]], Link fights several [[Boss Bot]]s, which are a fusion of Bots. When Link attacks a Boss Bot, it splits apart into five Bots. They are stronger than normal Bots and require numerous hits from Link. If Link's Attack is at Level 8, he can defeat these Bots with two hits. Link receives 10 EXP for each of the stronger Bots that he defeats.

In the [[Water Town of Saria]], Link can find a Bot sleeping in [[Bagu]]'s house. This Bot is not an enemy, unlike the others. When Link talks to the Bot, it wakes up and reveals the location of the house's master, Bagu, who is at [[North of River]]. The Bot appears purple, due to the game's "blue" palette being used for villagers' purple clothes in towns.

Additionally, one of the [[Spell (Zelda II: The Adventure of Link)|Spell]] magic's purposes is transforming other enemies into Bots. In certain palace rooms, namely ones whose layouts are sometimes used for falling block obstacles, this can cause the bots to be discolored due to those rooms assigning typical "dungeon wall" colors to the blue palette. In the [[Family Computer Disk System]] version, this can be seen without using Spell due to a drop-maker appearing in one such room of the [[Maze Island Palace]].

Bots appear as somewhat common enemies in both ''[[Link: The Faces of Evil]]'' and ''[[Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon]]'', particularly the latter. They are extremely short, and as such hitting them with the [[sword]] is difficult. They do not jump in either game, instead just slowly moving to the side. ''The Faces of Evil'' also has slightly-larger purple [[Zol]]s that appear earlier in the game and act roughly the same.
