Ghirahim, also known by his preferred title of Lord Ghirahim, is a self-proclaimed Demon Lord who plots the revival of his master, Demise. He acts as the main antagonist for the majority of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and is fought as a boss in it on three separate occasions. He generally has extremely flamboyant mannerisms and acts as a foil to the emotionless Fi. He is capable of many types of dark magic, which is usually marked with red, black, and yellow rhombus shapes.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Ghirahim orchestrates Zelda's fall from Skyloft at the beginning of the game, and is first seen directly as Link enters the Skyview Temple, albeit from behind. Once Link reaches the deepest area of the temple, Ghirahim accosts him directly, taunting and generally trying to unsettle him (notably nearly licking him at one point). The battle consists of him slowly walking toward Link with an outstretched hand, trying to grab the Goddess Sword. If he succeeds, he grabs it, chastises Link for telegraphing his attack, and uses it to counterattack. He can also summon groups of small, flying blades to launch at him.
In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Ghirahim pursues Zelda - and fights Link many times - in order to facilitate the resurrection of Demise. Despite Link's many attempts to stop this from happening, eventually Ghirahim completes the rites and Demise is resurrected.

He is later encountered at the Earth Temple, where he yells about how Impa managed to rescue Zelda from him. Instead of attacking Link directly, he creates a monster called Scaldera out of a giant boulder. He does not appear again until Link has reached the Temple of Time, where Impa and Zelda escape from him through the Gate of Time.

In the second half of the game, he appears in the Ancient Cistern, where he brings to life another monster, Koloktos. In the Fire Sanctuary, he again attacks Link directly, now with more types of attacks due to seeing him as a viable threat now.

Once Zelda has emerged from her crystal at the Sealed Temple near the end of the game, Ghirahim ambushes them and takes Zelda back to the past again, where he begins the ritual to revive his master while sending an enormous horde of enemies after Link. Once Link reaches the bottom, the last battle with him commences, and he turns into a dark, masculine counterpart to Fi. He creates a battlefield from his rhombus magic and sends it into the air, where Link eventually defeats him by repeatedly ramming the Master Sword through the spike on his chest. However, Demise is revived anyways, and after Ghirahim praises him, he turns Ghirahim into his true form: a spiked, black version of the Master Sword itself.

Hyrule Warriors
In Hyrule Warriors, Ghirahim is recruited by Cia in her conquest across time and space. He appears in Skyloft, attacking the residents there. Once his forces are driven back, he complains that it is "dull" and secretly brainwashes one of the allied Hylian Captains. In the next battle in the Sealed Grounds, he executes his plan, turning the Captain into a Turncoat Leader, and also affecting several other soldiers. Eventually Ghirahim is defeated and the time portal he guarded closed.

After Ganondorf's revival, he summons Ghirahim and Zant to help him take over Hyrule, starting in Gerudo Desert. During this, he compares Ganondorf favorably to his usual master, of whom Ganondorf is reincarnated from. Eventually, he is defeated once again.

In Adventure Mode, he occasionally is an ally in Giant Boss battles, though after a short amount of fighting, he will "remember" he is supposed to be allied with the boss, turning him and his forces against the player.

As a playable character, Ghirahim is capable of summoning his usual flying blades, as well as brightly-lit Bokoblins that run forward to attack and various other types of rhombus-covered magic. He uses the Demon Blade as a weapon. Whenever he uses Focus Spirit, he turns into his inorganic, Fi-like form.

Super Smash Bros. series
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Ghirahim is featured as an Assist Trophy. He attacks primarily by using his sword and throwing projectile diamonds when jumping. Ghirahim constantly moves around while attacking and, if he falls off the stage, Ghirahim teleports to the edge. If enough damage is dealt to Ghirahim, he staggers before disappearing; otherwise, he simply disappears after a period of time.

Prior to the game's release, Ghirahim was first announced in a Miiverse post by Masahiro Sakurai.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Ghirahim returns as an Assist Trophy, and has no difference in behavior. There is also a spirit of Ghirahim that depicts his main The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword artwork.

General information
Physical appearance
In his usual form, Ghirahim has pale, grayish-yellow skin, purple rings around his eyes, white hair that covers one eye, white lips, and a long, pointed tongue. One of his ears is long and pointed, the other is shorter and covered by his hair. He wears a white, skin-tight suit with rhombus-shaped holes cut out, as well as yellow sashes and red and cyan rhombus-shaped jewels. Aside from boss battles in his debut game, he often wears a large, dark red mantle with a yellow rhombus pattern on the inside. During his second battle, he appears the same, though black markings have appeared across his body, completely covering his hands and forearms.

In his third battle, he transforms into an inorganic form, embracing his role as a living weapon. Much like Fi, he has solid, teardrop-shaped "hair." Additionally, he has white, pupilless eyes, two long ears, and a small gem on his forehead. He has blackish-brown skin covered in an iridescent rhombus patter, with larger, white rhombuses over them in varying places. At the center of his chest is a silver rhombus that acts as his weak point. Attacking it enough causes a hole to appear, showing him to be hollow.

In his final "true" form, he is forcibly transformed into a dark version of the Master Sword. The edge of his blade is jagged and spiked, while his Triforce mark is red and upside-down. The cross-guard on his hilt is similarly spiked and jagged, while the gem inset within is a red rhombus.
