In ''The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time'', 100 Gold Skulltulas hide throughout [[Hyrule]]. Each holds a [[Gold Skulltula Spirit|token]] that when collected, ensures the Skulltula will not return and lessens the curse on the [[Cursed family|rich family]]. Gold Skulltulas are the same size of [[Walltula|Skullwalltula]]s and can be found in a variety places. Ones out in the open appear along the walls, ceilings, and floors and are always marked by a telltale loud scratching noise as they slowly spin in place. This type appears outside at night and inside dungeons. Gold Skulltulas can also be found in [[crate]]s, in [[tree]]s, and in every patch of [[soft soil]] other than the one at [[Zora's River]], only able to be dug up by [[bottle]]d [[bug]]s. Many Gold Skulltulas in high places leave behind tokens that are too high to reach without the [[boomerang]] or [[Hookshot]]. Additionally, some only appear in either the past or future. When every Gold Skulltula in any major map location is defeated with the token collected, a token icon appears next to the location's name on the map subscreen.

In ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask]]'', Gold Skulltulas are limited to the [[Swamp Spider House]] and [[Oceanside Spider House]], where 30 appear in each. They have the same basic behavior as before, but can now sometimes move back and forth over a limited area. Aside from out in the open, they can appear in soil, jars, a chandelier, and even [[beehive]]s. [[Link]] gets a different reward for obtaining all of the Gold Skulltula Spirits in each location.

In ''[[Hyrule Warriors]]'', Gold Skulltulas hold [[illustration]] pieces and appear in scenarios in Legend Mode as well as a few in Adventure Mode. They are larger than before and appear for a short period when certain battle conditions are met. Their general location is marked by a large spider web icon on the map, though the Skulltula's precise location must be figured out from the scratching noise, with the music also becoming quieter when nearby. All scenarios with them have two Gold Skulltulas associated with them, though only one can appear per play.
