When an unwitting traveler tries to pick the Rupee up, the Rupee Like bursts out and begins eating their Rupees. Generally, the color of Rupee indicates how many at a time they can steal. If a long-reaching item is used to collect Rupees, generally the ones attached to Rupee Likes will be unaffected, though this sometimes prompts them to come out from the ground.

If a [[Link]] is caught, another can defeat the monster, or the first can wiggle free. When defeated, they drop a random type of Rupee.

If Link has no Rupees left, they continue to pursue him without meaningful effect. The Rupee on its lure is real and can be collected upon the Rupee Like's defeat, along with any only recently stolen Rupees, with the rest being lost. This is the first game they appear alongside normal Like Likes, and are depicted as shorter (with two levels of bumps) and more yellow compared to the brown, three-leveled Like Like.

In ''[[The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds]]'', Rupee Likes have a wide but sparse range, appearing in various parts of both [[Hyrule]] and [[Lorule]]. They are among the only non-dungeon enemies to appear in both, discounting the [[Treacherous Tower]]. However, the total number is quite small. Their locations can be quickly noticed by attentive eyes by the larger shadows under the Rupees compared to normal. The Rupees they steal cannot be recovered at all, while defeating them only gives a green Rupee regardless of lure color. A single purple-lured one is present in the Lorule version of the [[Rupee Rush]] game. Aside from the lures, they are visually identical to normal Like Likes in this game.  They are among the only enemies that can be encountered before [[Yuga]] invades the [[Sanctuary]].
