Super Game Boy | Super Game Boy is a peripheral to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System released in June, 1994 that allows Game Boy games to be played on the big screen. Since the SNES is not capable of properly emulating Game Boy games, the hardware of a Game Boy is built into the Super Game Boy, which uses the SNES as an input/output conduit. All Game Boy games had the option to be colorized with a minimum of 10 colors, with later games made with Super Game Boy in mind being able to display more. Preset borders were available to be placed around the game with multiple designs and color combinations, including a doodle feature to make custom designs around the screen. Some games were made specifically for use on Super Game Boy, including custom borders, superior audio and visuals, and the use of the multiple controller ports on the SNES for multiplayer. | ||
Prior to the Nintendo Switch version, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening could be played on the big screen through the Super Game Boy. While there were no special improvements due the game releasing before the peripheral, all of the features mentioned above are available for the player. | Prior to the Nintendo Switch version, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening could be played on the big screen through the Super Game Boy.
