Zaganaga is the boss of the Desert Palace in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, replacing both the Lanmolas of the Desert Palace and Vitreous of Misery Mire in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It is a giant cactus creature that burrows through the sand, only emerging through solid platforms Link can stand on, though it never purposefully burrows into him. Despite being the boss of the Desert Palace, Zaganaga is actually fought in a sand pit overlooking Misery Mire in Lorule, reachable only via a fissure at the end of the Desert Palace.

At the beginning of the battle, Zaganaga burrows between the many platforms over the quicksand. To reach it, Link needs to use the Sand Rod over the quicksand pit to make paths between the platforms. Once Link has attacked it, it will begin retaliating by spawning trios of weak Peahats from its flower to distract and harass Link, though they only remain long enough for it to create three more and can be defeated with any attack. Continuing to attack Zaganaga will eventually anger it into opening up its bud, revealing a hole and five eyeballs inside its flower. It continues to attack as before, but sometimes also fires a wide beam attack. It has a limited range and turns extremely slowly, so it can be dodged fairly easily, though if hit it may knock Link into the quicksand. Continuing to attack Zaganaga will defeat it, after which a dam at the north end of the arena opens, filling the pit with stable sand and revealing Irene's portrait.
