“You got a Deku Stick! On the Select Item Subscreen, you can set it to Camera left Button, Camera up Button or Camera right Button. Set it to Camera buttons and swing it with Camera buttons! When you want to put it away, stand still and press A Button. You can carry up to 10 sticks, but don't waste them.”

Deku Sticks are items that appear in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. They are the long, dried-up stalks of a Deku Baba, although they directly resemble a wooden branch. Their main purpose is to light up torches. Deku Sticks can be used like a weapon, although they are fragile and break after striking against an object.

The main method of obtaining a Deku Stick is for Link to slash his Kokiri Sword at a Deku Baba just as it stands straight up. In both games, Deku Sticks are also sold at some locations.

History

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

In their debut appearance, Deku Sticks are among the first items that Link can obtain. Aside from obtaining them through normal means, Link can buy Deku Sticks at the Kokiri Shop for ten Rupees apiece. Later on, Link can also buy it from a Business Scrub at a higher price of 15 rupees. Link can only use Deku Sticks as a child, and when Link is an adult, the Fire Arrows or Din's Fire ability replace the Deku Sticks' purpose for lighting torches.
