(The JP TLoZ manual called Manhandla a giant four-headed Piranha Plant.)
(I suppose Manhandla's generally treated as a species, particularly with the "Big Manhandla" from the Four Swords games....)

Piranha Plants[1] are carnivorous plant enemies that appear in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and its Game Boy Color port, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX. They are from the Mario franchise. Before Link's Awakening, a specific large Piranha Plant called Manhandla appeared in the first The Legend of Zelda.

Piranha Plants appear in side-scrolling areas in the second and third dungeons, Bottle Grotto and Key Cavern. They often appear alongside Goombas, another enemy from the Mario franchise. Piranha Plants have the same attack pattern as in the Mario games. They repeatedly appear from their pipe then retreat every few seconds. If Link is standing on a pipe, the Piranha Plant does not appear from it. When a Piranha Plant emerges from its pipe, Link can attack it with any weapon to instantly defeat it. Link cannot defeat a Piranha Plant if he uses the Roc's Feather to jump on it, as doing so injures him, making him lose half a Heart. Link can use the Roc's Feather to safely jump over a Piranha Plant.
