Split?[edit]

This may seem excessive considering there's already some functional overlap with the Fire Rod, but in Hyrule Warriors, the Magical Rod and Fire Rod are both classified as a type of Magic Rod. LTL (talk) 20:28, 30 April 2020 (MDT)

Huh I thought the Magical Rod and Magic Rod were the same thing but with names in different sources. How is the Magical Rod different from the Magic Rod? Results May Vary (talk) 20:52, 30 April 2020 (MDT)
Going by original appearances, the main difference is that the Magical Rod doesn't come with flame blasts out of the box - you have to find the book item to upgrade its normal spell waves, which are the ones used by Wizzrobes. I'm not really sure what the practical difference is between the Fire Rod and the Magic Rod in most games, but in Hyrule Warriors, the Magical Rod is treated as a stronger version of the Fire Rod, and both are considered Magic Rod types along with the Prism Rod and 8-Bit Candle. Given the original's magical upgrade and HW's distinction (on the same level of off-model Giant's Knife and Biggoron's Blade, I might add), this is different. LA is either a throwback or simply a stand-in for ALttP's multiple rods, given the Turtle Rock connection. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 11:25, 18 May 2020 (MDT)
Looking into it a bit deeper, it seems that several weapon types in Hyrule Warriors were given different names in Japanese; the "Magic Rod" is not the 「マジックロッド」 as you'd expect, but rather simply 「ロッド」 (Rod). Considering the Magical Rod also no longer needs a book to learn to cast fire in Hyrule Warriors, I'm inclined to split the article between the item and weapon type instead, at least for now. Considering the "rod" weapon class in other games (usually distinguished via elements), that seems like a good idea to me. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:42, February 21, 2021 (MST)
