Identifier[edit]

There is also a Japanese Zelda no Densetsu board game made by Bandai, and as such I feel that instead of giving both a "board game" identifier, we should use the company names as identifiers. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:42, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Wouldn't saying The Legend of Zelda (Bandai) be an instance of transliteration? Results May Vary (talk) 00:53, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
I'm not saying that. I think it should be "The Legend of Zelda (Milton Bradley)" and "Zelda no Densetsu (Bandai)," as having both those titles with "board game" could be very easily confusing. Also technically that's straight-up translation, not transliteration. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:03, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
What's the difference between translation and transliteration? Results May Vary (talk) 01:24, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
Transliteration iirc is what we actually do, ie the writing the Japanese (or other such language) in a different script. Romanization is a type, and there are different ways of doing it; the "remove macrons and call it a day" thing Dark Horse does is bad transliteration. Most names of enemies and other such things are transliterated officially, and as such, they alter them further to fit in with English conventions (like "Otarokku" to "Octorok"). I do agree with changing the identifiers. Doomhiker (talk) 02:14, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
Yeah now that I think of it, it would make sense to change them Results May Vary (talk) 02:17, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
