Zazaks are a species of humanoid crocodilians first shown in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. They closely resemble Dairas, particularly with their mohawk-like crests, and come in indigo and red. Their artwork, however, shows them as crestless and teal.
History
The Legend of Zelda series
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Zazaks are found in Thieves' Town, where they wander around on the lower portion of the main large rooms. They move aimlessly, though the red ones spit a fireball at Link when facing him. The main danger instead comes from not being able to see them part of the time due to the large bridges above. This is compounded by the Usagi Beams nearby, cursing Link into Bunny Link, who cannot fight the Zazaks. Later, they appear in Ganon's Tower.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Zazaks have changed completely in behavior. They appear in certain rooms of the Thieves' Hideout while helping the Thief Girl to escape. They always appear in large groups, and walk towards the duo in a lumbering manner, attempting to reach the Thief Girl. If they do, she and Link will be taken back to her cell. Red ones no longer shoot fire, and are simply more durable versions of the indigo ones. In one room, there is a Crystal Switch that opens a huge, room-spanning trapdoor to get rid of all of them at once. Appearance-wise, they lack the plated skirts and lack pupils.
