History
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, prior to the Wing Ceremony, Groose, Cawlin and Strich kidnap the Crimson Loftwing and imprison him inside a small cave beyond the Waterfall Cave. With the help of Eagus, Zelda and his classmates, however, Link is able to find the Crimson Loftwing past the Waterfall Cave and participate in the race. Described by Headmaster Gaepora as a rare breed, the Crimson Loftwing was once thought to be extinct. Link and his Loftwing were immediately able to bond and work together, something that made Zelda envious of as her father noted.
During his quest, Link has to rid the spirit of the skies Levias of a parasite. In order to do this, Owlan teaches Link the Spiral Charge to perform while riding the Crimson Loftwing. This technique allows Link to perform a drill-like attack, enabling him to rid Levias of his parasite. It is known that the Crimson Loftwing is very rare.
Hyrule Warriors
In Hyrule Warriors and its reissues, Link's Level 3 Great Fairy weapon, the Great Sky Fairy wears a costume based on the Crimson Loftwing.
Super Smash Bros. series
In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Crimson Loftwing makes a cameo flying around the Skyloft stage. In the former game, there is a trophy of the Crimson Loftwing, which can be unlocked by purchasing it from the Trophy Shop, and a trophy of Skyloft in which the Crimson Loftwing is shown.
