The Fire Rod is a recurring item in The Legend of Zelda series. When Link waves the Fire Rod, it shoots out a blast of fire, which can ignite objects and enemies and also light torches. It functions similarly to the Lantern but has a longer range.

A similar item named the Magic Rod appears in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

History

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Link obtains the Fire Rod in the Skull Woods. Each time Link uses the Fire Rod, it uses energy from the magic meter. The Fire Rod is required during the battle against Trinexx.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures

In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, Fire Rods are located on certain Item Podiums throughout the game. While the Fire Rod is equipped, the player can press A Button to make the four Links shoot a blast of fire. Holding the button allows the Fire Rod to release a large stream of fire. If the Fire Rod is upgraded to level 2, it functions like the Cane of Somaria; the Links can use it to create a yellow block and again for the block to explode, releasing fire in all four cardinal directions.

Trivia

  • The Fire Rod is a scrapped item from The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. It was presumably removed in development, due to the item obtain text, a string saying the Fire Rod is for 350 rupees (suggesting it would have been obtained from a store), and the European version's description mentioning that Ice Wizzrobes are weak to the Fire Rod.[1]
