Species Warrior

Odolwa is a fierce tribal warrior and the first boss of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. He is fought in the Woodfall Temple.

Battle[edit]

“If you get close to him, you'll be beaten! Do you understand me?”
Tatl

During battle, Odolwa attacks with various sword strikes, including a forward slash and a continuous spin attack. He occasionally leaps upward out of sight and come back down elsewhere. If Odolwa is not actively attacking, then he will block any of Link's attacks, except for bombs, which he will instead leap away from. If Link touches Odolwa, he loses 1/4th of heart of damage. There are a few ways in which Link can stun Odolwa. One way is by shooting arrows at Odolwa if either his attack misses or while he is dancing. In this state, Odolwa can be damaged from sword attacks or other weapons. Odolwa can also be stunned if Link transforms into a Deku and shoot bubbles at him. Lastly, Link can throw Bomb Flowers found in the room to stun and damage him. Odolwa continuously yells 'Yee, haah, hoy'. If Odolwa stops yelling that phrase, he usually attacks or begins to dance. In The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, Odolwa's weak spot is his eye on the back of his head, which Link can only hit after Odolwa is stunned.

After the battle has gone on for a short time, Odolwa begins to use other tactics. He can summon Moths and large bugs to attack Link. They can be defeated in one hit and as a way to obtain hearts. If Link uses an explosive weapon, its bright lit fuse attracts Odolwa's minions, who are likely to be destroyed in the resulting explosion. Sometimes, Odolwa creates a ring of fire around Link, but as a Goron, Link can pass through it harmlessly if he rolls through it. The ring of fire burns any enemies that walk into it.

After Odolwa has begun summoning insects, rocks will also occasionally fall from the ceiling onto Link. There is also a Deku Flower in the center of the room. One of the fastest ways Link can defeat Odolwa is to shoot him with an arrow, approach him while stunned, and spin attack repeatedly. Alternatively, after Link obtains the Fierce Deity's Mask, he can use it to transform and defeat Odolwa with relative ease, especially as the Fierce Deity's Sword Beams can harm Odolwa even when his shield is up.

When Link manages to defeat Odolwa, the water of Woodfall Temple is cleansed of the poison, and Link obtains Odolwa's Remains. Shortly thereafter, he is transported to a dream-like dimension, where one of the Four Giants, who has been freed as a result of Odolwa's death, teaches Link the Oath of Order. After this, Link is transported to a small room at the back of Woodfall Temple, where Odolwa imprisoned the Deku Princess. Link frees the Deku Princess and returns her to the Deku King, restoring peace to Woodfall.
