Faron Woods is a large forest in Hyrule that appears in a few The Legend of Zelda games, starting with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It is a major location of the Faron Province and is named after Faron, the Spirit of Light who lives in Faron Woods.

History

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Faron Woods is one of the locations that Link visits the most throughout his journey.

The first time Link enters Faron Woods is in search of Talo, who had gone missing after chasing a monkey deep into the woods. As Link explores the forest, he meets Coro, the only human inhabitant of Faron Woods. Coro gives him a free Lantern as a sales tactic to sell more Lantern Oil. With the Lantern, Link travels through a dark cave ahead. In the cave, he obtains a Small Key that allows him to access the Forest Temple ahead. When Link reaches the entrance of the Forest Temple, he finds Talo and a monkey trapped in a cage and rescues them from Bokoblins.

The next time Link goes to Faron Woods, it is covered in twilight. Link gets pulled in by a Shadow Beast and is tranformed into a wolf for the first time. Shortly after he transforms, Link falls unconscious. Later, Link wakes up in a dungeon of Hyrule Castle. There, he meets an imp-like creature named Midna, who would accompany him throughout his adventure. Together, Link and Midna travel through Underground Waterway and return to Faron Woods.

When Link and Midna return to Faron Woods, they meet Faron, who tells them to collect the Tears of Light to restore light to the area. By doing so, Faron is freed, and he returns Link to his normal form. He then instructs Link to go into the Forest Temple and collect the first Fused Shadow. Along the way, Link encounters a Golden Wolf, who teaches him his first Hidden Skill, the Ending Blow.

After Zant cursed Link to remain a wolf, he journeys back to Princess Zelda, and she tells him to go to the Sacred Grove (a location within Faron Woods) and obtain the Master Sword, which is the only thing that can turn him back into a human. Later, Link returns to Faron Woods to go to the Temple of Time, where he obtains one of the Mirror Shards.

Locations

In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Faron Woods consists of three major sections, South Faron Woods, Faron Woods Swamp, and North Faron Woods. Link must travel through a cave to access Faron Woods Swamp, which leads to North Faron Woods. There is a small bridge that connects Faron Woods to the Ordona Province.

There are other places in both South and North Faron Woods, which includes two templess and two shops:
