The Essence of the Triforce (also formatted as the Essence Of The Triforce) is an invisible, sentient entity that communicates from the Triforce. It presents itself in a few The Legend of Zelda games.

History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past[edit]

The Essence of the Triforce speaks in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past's ending. It introduces itself to Link and explains about how the Triforce grants wishes.

According the Essence of the Triforce, whoever touches the Triforce will have their wishes granted, regardless whether they are good or evil. The Essence of the Triforce also says that stronger wishes are reflected by the Triforce, which grants them more strongly strongly. It then says that Ganon's wish was to conquer the world, which turned the Golden Land into the Dark World, where Ganon would build up power to try and conquer the Light World next. The Essence of the Triforce tells Link that since Ganon was defeated, the Triforce awaits a new owner. It encourages Link to make a wish from his heart, and Link presumably wishes for Hyrule to be totally restored.

The existence of the Essence of the Triforce is hinted at in the manual for the Super NES version.[1] According to legend, when Ganondorf reached the Triforce with his blood-stained hands, he heard a voice tell him that his desires were to be granted.

The Triforce's essence in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Ages[edit]

The Triforce is also shown to be sentient in the intro for both The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. Both intros end with Link encountering the Triforce, which an aura comes out from, to warp him into another area. In The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, the aura is orange and warps Link to Holodrum. In The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, the aura is blue and warps Link to Labyrnna. In either game, when the player starts a new game file, the scene continues. It shows Link falling in a black void, and the same aura appears to Link and says, "Accept our quest, hero!".

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess[edit]

While the Essence of the Triforce is not directly heard in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, a flashback shows that when Ganon first appeared before Zant, he spoke with a variation of the phrase used in the Super NES manual of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, suggesting that he is masquerading as a similar being.

Trivia[edit]

  • In early media such as the cartoon series and Philips CD-i games, the Triforce of Wisdom and Triforce of Power are shown to have voices of their own. However, the Essence of the Triforce is depicted as the consciousness of the Triforce as a whole.
