History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Link can summon a hawk using Hawk Grass. In doing so, he can command the hawk to grab items or attack enemies. Like most other animals, Wolf Link can talk to hawks and even use Hawk Grass to summon a hawk, tells him if there is a nearby Treasure Chest or a Piece of Heart. If the items have already been collected, the hawk tells Wolf Link that there is nothing to find in the area.

In Ordon Village, before Link begins his adventure, he is taught by Jaggle how to summon a hawk. During this, Jaggle encourages Link to climb up onto the cliff with him. Once Link has done so, Jaggle asks Link to play the tune on the Hawk Grass to summon a Hawk. Shortly after learning the skill, Link summons the aid of a hawk in Ordon Village two more times: to retrieve Uli's stolen cradle and to knock down a nest of Hylian Hornets for Hanch to get some Bee Larvae. There is also a Hawk flying around near Link's House. If Link sends the hawk in the direction of a Cucco, the hawk grabs the Cucco and brings it back to Link, who grabs on it automatically.

Later, when Link returns to Ordon Village as a wolf, he is noticed by Hanch, who mistakes Wolf Link for being a monster. Whenever Hanch notices Wolf Link, he summons a hawk to attack Wolf Link. If Wolf Link sneaks behind Hanch, he can scare him away and therefore stop the Hawk from attacking again. After scaring away Hanch, Link can howl near Hawk Grass to summon the same hawk, who proceeds to apologize for attacking him.

Most Hawk Grass can summon a hawk except the one in Lake Hylia and Sacred Grove, which each serve their own unique purpose. Hawks are also seen at the foot at Death Mountain, where there are Bulblin archers. Hawk Grass can be used to summon a hawk to defeat them without using any items, and from a safe distance where they cannot harm him.

Near the end of Link's journey, Rusl summons a Hawk to aid Link when he is surrounded by enemies in Hyrule Castle. The hawk protects Link by picking up an arrow shot by a Bokoblin.
