Those who guard the Sacred Realm with the royal family are called sages. The mysterious power of the early Hylians has largely been lost as eras have passed, but the sages and their descendants still possess this sacred power.
Each time the world falls into certain crisis, a new group of chosen sages awaken to combat evil.
In all of their appearances, Hyrule's sages and their descendants are fated to be targeted by Ganon and the forces of evil.
History[edit]
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, the seven sages, known as the seven wise men in the SNES version, sealed the Golden Land in the past.
Agahnim kidnapped seven maidens who descended from the wise men, sacrificing all but Princess Zelda to the Dark World.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the Temple of Time was created as a bridge to the Sacred Realm using the Master Sword as the connection.
The six Sages here were each represented by a different group, Hylian, Kokiri, Goron, Zora, Sheikah, and Gerudo, with Rauru at the head of the six. Zelda is the seventh Sage and their leader.
The seven Sages eventually sealed Ganon away.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the Earth Sage and Wind Sage were murdered by Ganondorf's servants, leading Link to find new sages to take up their roles.
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, Vaati was sealed in the Elemental Sanctuary by Link and Zelda, and watched over by seven maidens, including Zelda, who were all descended from the sages.
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Ezlo, the famous Minish sage, is turned into a bird-like cap by Vaati.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, seven sages carried out Ganondorf's execution at the Arbiter's Grounds, which ultimately failed when the Triforce of Power showed up on his hand. Breaking free of his chains, Ganondorf kills one of the sages (representing water). The other six continue to protect the Twilight Mirror.
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, the graves of six sages of the Cobble Kingdom are found on the Island of the Dead. They knew the way through the Phantom Corridor.
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Princess Zelda heard tales of a sage (known as the wise one in British English) of the Tower of Spirits who guards Hyrule. This turns out to be Anjean, who watches over the tower but dismisses the claim.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds[edit]
In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Yuga kidnaps the descendants of the Seven Sages and brings them to Lorule in an attempt to revive Ganon and merge with him.
