Triforce Wiki proudly consists of a community of Mario fans

Triforce Wiki is a The Legend of Zelda wiki created by Super Mario Wiki editor, formerly an administrator of the defunct Donkey Kong Wiki, Results May Vary. It is made to directly compliment Super Mario Wiki in both layout and design. This coincidentally reflects how the development team is shared between the Super Mario series and The Legend of Zelda series, both of which they concurrently worked on for years. Triforce Wiki welcomes any form of constructive editing, both big and small.

History

Triforce Wiki was temporarily hosted on ShoutWiki as a placeholder for a new The Legend of Zelda wiki in March 2019. This was a few months after Zelda Wiki (zelda.gamepedia.com, formerly zeldawiki.org) and its host, Gamepedia, were acquired by FANDOM in December 2018. Results May Vary believed that users needed an open environment on a non-corporate host. The Dark Horse publication, Zelda Encyclopedia (a The Legend of Zelda counterpart to the Super Mario Encyclopedia), was one of the main reasons why Triforce Wiki was founded, due to its highly unreliable nature and its frequent usage on Zelda wikis. This was brought to Results May Vary's attention by Doc von Schmeltwick, who was the first person to suggest a new The Legend of Zelda wiki.

Since April 30, 2019, Triforce Wiki has been independently hosted on zeldawiki.info. Results May Vary would have preferred the domain name zeldawiki.com, but it was too expensive on the domain market, and Results May Vary could not afford it. The .info top-level domain was a second option in response to how some of the NIWA wikis (such as wikibound.info and starfoxwiki.info) had the top-level domain.

A few months later, on June 11, 2019, Zeldapedia (zelda.fandom.com) integrated its community into Zelda Wiki, and Zeldapedia was permanently closed to editing and became a read-only archive. Triforce Wiki is the most similar in style to Zeldapedia (and even shares a compatible CC-BY-SA license). Since Zeldapedia's closure, Triforce Wiki became more distinctive from the other Zelda wikis.

On December 9, 2021, Triforce Wiki (along with its sibling wiki, Wiki of Mana) has moved its hosting to Grifkuba Gaming Services, and its domain has been changed to triforcewiki.com. This is because the original host was slow, often gave connectivity issues, and because Results May Vary could not afford a better hosting solution.

Name origin

Triforce Wiki is named after the Triforce, a signature relic from The Legend of Zelda games. Other wiki names (such as Zeldapedia and Zelda Wiki) were taken, so Results May Vary struggled to find an original name that mentioned Zelda in the title. He thought of Zelda Encyclopedia as a possible name but then quickly dismissed it due to the ambiguity with Zeldapedia and Zelda Encyclopedia.

Results May Vary decided on the name "Triforce Wiki", believing the Zelda wikis to be scattered like the missing fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom from the first game, or even the three parts of the Triforce itself (the Triforce of Power, the Triforce of Wisdom, and the Triforce of Courage). The Triforce reminds him of the number 3, namely in a context of biblical numerology, and has made it analogous to Zelda wikis as a whole:

  • Before Triforce Wiki's creation and in its early months, there were three main The Legend of Zelda wikis: Zelda Wiki, Zeldapedia, and Zelda Dungeon Wiki.
  • Once Zeldapedia closed doors, only three The Legend of Zelda wikis remained available: Zelda Wiki, Triforce Wiki, and Zelda Dungeon Wiki.

Results May Vary believes that Super Mario Wiki sets an example and a "gold standard" for a wiki. With Triforce Wiki, he has taken the idea of "gold standard" more literally, as a way to reflect the divine nature of the Triforce. Results May Vary and the editors are working hard and aiming to provide comprehensive, extensive information on every subject from The Legend of Zelda that cannot be found elsewhere, so for the article to meet the "gold standard" of an article.
