Desperately trying to make sense of the official names of the CD-i Zelda enemies.

Current Name Proposed Rename (where applicable) Evidence
Abominom TFoE sprite.png
Abominom
Abominan
  • Said in-game by Alora.
  • Spelling is given as "Abominan" in the UK guide, confirming the name link, though the pronunciation is quite ambiguous; it could also be Abominom or Abominam.
Acheman TFoE sprite.png
Acheman
  • Looks are similar to the Acheman sprite/drawing from Zelda II, but no official confirmation on its name.
Arkadai TWoG sprite.png
Arkadai
  • Named in the UK guide.
  • For some reason, the guide refers to the Shutoy Lake Arkadai as a raft? Were there rafts in the area at one point? Or is it just bad writing?
Armos TFoE sprite.png
Armos
  • Concept is similar (stone statue-like warriors that wield a spear), though there's no official name confirmation and the designs look very different.
Arpagos sprite.pngArpagos small sprite.png
Arpagos
  • Said in-game by Kulvan, with the two related trade items (and UK guide) confirming the spelling.
Bago-Bago TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Bago-Bago
Flying Smog
  • Not sure how the name was tied to this enemy, but they're way too different for any sort of connection.
  • I propose the conjectural name "Flying Smog" due to the smoke billowing from its backside, and because it makes rooms dark when it hits Link or Zelda.
Boar TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Boar
Pig (enemy)
  • Named in the Wand UK guide.
Boon TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Boon
  • Called "bees" in the Wand UK guide.
  • However, the Zelda II Boon art and this enemy look quite similar, and the enemy is referred to as "Killer Bees" in the NES Game Atlas. As such, I'm leaning more towards leaving the name as-is.
Bot TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Bot
  • Matches this enemy the most in terms of design.
  • For some reason, the UK guide calls these enemies "Tektites" or "Tiktites", despite the huge design difference between Bots and Tektites.
Boulder TFoE sprite 1.pngBoulder TFoE sprite 2.pngBoulder TFoE sprite 3.pngBoulder TFoE TWoG sprite.pngBoulder TFoE sprite 4.png
Boulder
  • Named in the UK guides.
Daira TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Daira
  • Looks identical to the Zelda II Daira art. Plus, the Fish Lady cutscene names the enemy and confirms a link (even if she's technically referring to Fire Dairas).
Darknut TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Darknut
  • Matches very well with the LOZ Darknut art, even if there isn't a confirmation on their name. (They're referred to as "soldiers" in the UK guide.)
Deadite TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Deadite
  • Named in the Wand UK guide.
Deeler TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Deeler
Spider
  • Referred to as "spiders" in the UK guide.
  • They don't look much like the Deeler's promo art. The enemy labeled "Tektite" on the page is a better fit, IMO
Dodongo TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Dodongo
  • Named in-game by Link in Wand, with the UK guides confirming the name link.
Falling Rocks TFoE sprite.png
Falling Bricks TFoE sprite.png
Falling debris
  • Generic, fitting name for these things. No official name in the guides, and they're unlikely to get a unique page.
Fire Daira TFoE sprite.png
Fire Daira
  • Referred to as "fire creatures" in the UK guide, but the Dutch version of the guide calls them "Fire Dairas" (Vuur Dairas).
Fire Stalfos TFoE sprite.png
Fire Stalfos
Flame Stalfos
  • Slightly tweaked version of the Zelda Wiki name to prevent copying. It's entirely fan-made.
  • Closest in appearance to the Stalfos Knight from Zelda II, given their sole sword.
Flying Snake TFoE sprite.png
Flying Snake
Flying Serpent
  • Slightly tweaked version of the Zelda Wiki name to prevent copying. It's (still) entirely fan-made.
  • Referred to as "snakes" in the UK guides.
Ghini yellow TFoE sprite.pngGhini green TFoE sprite.png
Ghini
  • Named on the back of the Wand of Gamelon box.
  • Technically, there isn't a name link, but there's literally no other enemy that fits the Ghini name apart from this one.
Gleeok TFoE sprite.png
Gleeok
  • Named in-game by Alora.
Gohma TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Gohma
  • Named in-game by Anutu and Sanda.
Goriya TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Goriya
  • Named in-game by the Sakado merchant. Name link is confirmed in UK guides.
Sidestepper TFoE sprite.png
Handwalker
  • No official name. Handwalker is conjectural, but it fits for now.
Gleeok Head TFoE sprite.png
Head of Gleeok
Gleeok head
(ONLY for the visual link!!!)
  • Called "Gleeok head" in the UK guides. This change will only be visual, don't worry.
Icicle TFoE TWoG sprite.png
Icicle
  • Generic name for this obstacle. What else could I name it?
Jawbee TFoE-TWoG sprite.pngJawbee red TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Jawbee
  • Named in the UK guide.
Keese TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Keese
  • Referred to as "bats" in the UK guides.
  • The name is generic, though, and given that the Vire appears in Wand (and has its name confirmed), I'm leaning towards keeping the Keese link.
Lowder TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Lowder
Tree Slugs (maybe)
  • Referred to as "tree slugs" in the UK guide. This name makes no sense in Faces as they appear in Ganon's Lair.
  • The Zelda II Lowder art and this enemy look quite similar, so it could go either way.
Gargoyle TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Mini-Dragon
  • Fan-made name, with no confirmation in the guides. It shall be kept until one is found.
Moa TFoE sprite.png
Moa
Moblin TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Moblin Spearthrower
  • Named in-game by Makoto. The manual and UK guide adds the Spearthrower part.
Worm TFoE sprite.png
Moldorm
Molten Rocks TFoE sprite.png
Molten rocks
  • Generic name for this obstacle. It's not named in the UK guide.
Octorok TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Octorok
  • Named in-game by Link and TFOE's box art. The UK guide confirms the connection.
  • Plus, the design matches very well with the LOZ art.
Phyrandaii TFoE sprite.png
Phyrandaii
  • Named in the UK guide. They are also called "fire wheels".
Sancrumi TFoE sprite.png
Sancrumi
  • Named in-game by Gwonam. The Koridai world map concept art confirms the spelling.
  • Technically, any of the unnamed flying creatures could be the Sancrumi, but it appears to be the first one you encounter (this one).
Ant TFoE sprite.png
Scorpion
  • Named in the UK guide.
Skull Barrier TFoE TWoG sprite 1.pngSkull Barrier TFoE TWoG sprite 2.pngSkull Barrier TFoE sprite.png
Skull-topped barrier
  • Named in the UK guide. Also called "pillars".
Spearfish TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Spearfish
  • Named via the location Spearfish Falls, as well as in the UK guide.
Stalfos TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Stalfos
  • Named on the back of the Wand of Gamelon box.
  • Much like the Ghini, there isn't a name link, but there's no other enemy that fits the Stalfos name apart from this one and the projectile variant.
Stone Head TWoG sprite.png
Stone statue
Spider TFoE sprite.png
Tektite
Deeler
  • No name confirmation.
  • Their design is a bit closer to the (blue) Deeler's art than the other spider; they have four eyes and are blue instead of purple
Vire ZWoG sprite.png
Vire
  • Named in the UK guide.
Wallmaster TFoE-TWoG sprite.png
Wall Master (large)
  • Named in the UK guide. No distinction is made between it and the small variant.
Floormaster TWoG sprite.png
Wall Master (small)
  • Named in the UK guide. No distinction is made between it and the large variant.
