Lowders[1] are short, slithering beetle enemies that more closely resemble pill bugs or horseshoe crabs due to their shape and number of legs. Their name may be a play on the word "low," befitting their height and ground-based movements.

History[edit]

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link[edit]

In Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, Lowders are common, weak enemies that appear in a variety of locations, most often in caves. They normally walk slowly back-and-forth along the ground, but if they see Link, they will charge at him at a noticeably faster speed, sometimes turning around to do so. Due to their height, they can only be effectively attacked by kneeling or with a Downward Thrust.

CD-i games[edit]

Link: The Faces of Evil / Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon[edit]

In both Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, Lowders appear as rare enemies, being unique to Ganon's Lair in the former and Washubi Swamp in the latter. They are even shorter than before and as such quite difficult to hit without being below the platform they walk on, though they are also much less aggressive.

Zelda's Adventure[edit]

In Zelda's Adventure, Lowders appear wandering around many sectors of Tolemac's overworld, being among the most widespread enemies in the game. Due to the top-down perspective, their height is no longer an issue.
