The Magical Shield, also formatted magical shield[1][2], is a shield used by Link in the first two games, The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. It can be identified by a large cross shape on the front.

History

The Legend of Zelda series

The Legend of Zelda

In The Legend of Zelda, the Magical Shield can be bought from various shops, priced at either 90, 130, or 160 rupees. Unlike regular shields, the Magical Shield can deflect spells from Wizzrobes, beams from Lynels, and fireballs from Zolas. The Magical Shield is larger than normal shields, allowing for more protection against projectiles. Like Likes can swallow shields, including Magical Shields, so if it swallows a shield, Link cannot recover it unless he buys another one from a Merchant.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

In Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, Link uses a magical shield as a defensive weapon for the entire game. By default, Link holds the shield in front to defend the upper half of his body, but if he crouches, he can defend the lower half. The Magical Shield cannot protect against fire. Unlike other games, Link cannot upgrade his shield, although the Reflect spell allows him to deflect spells from Wizzrobes.
