Silver Arrows are a special, powerful type of arrow found in earlier games of the The Legend of Zelda franchise. These arrows debuted as the sole weakness of Ganon, causing him to turn to dust, likely a reference to folk tales that treat silver as a holy element deadly to supernatural creatures. In later games, their role is essentially eclipsed by the Master Sword and Light Arrows, with the former sometimes being used to kill Ganondorf and the latter merely weakening him. Regardless, Silver Arrows are the first item to indicate a power to repel evil.

History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda series[edit]

The Legend of Zelda[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda, Silver Arrows are found in Death Mountain, additionally appearing in its counterpart in the Second Quest, and upon being collected replace normal arrows. They deal twice as much damage to normal enemies. Once Ganon has become petrified from enough sword strikes, hitting him with a Silver Arrow will finish him off, causing him to crumble into ash.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Silver Arrows are gained from the Fat Faerie by throwing the bow into her spring at the Pyramid of Power, itself only accessible once the Ice Palace and Misery Mire have been completed. They once again replace the normal arrows upon being collected, and now instantly defeat most enemies. During the battle with Ganon, they are used the same way as before, though due to him being more powerful in this game it takes four hits to destroy him.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (comic)[edit]

In the comic adaptation of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past by Shotaro Ishinomori, the Silver Arrow is first mentioned in a prophecy that says Ganon will be defeated with "a sacred arrow," leading the archer Roam to believe he will deal the finishing blow. However, Roam dies destroying the ghost of Agahnim in Ganon's Tower, after which Ganon appears. Princess Zelda wields Roam's crossbow, and after Link cuts a huge gash in Ganon's chest, Zelda fires an arrow into it. Link, Zelda, Roam's spirit, and the maidens pour their energy into the arrow, turning it into the Silver Arrow and killing Ganon.

Satellview games[edit]

BS Zelda no Densetsu[edit]

In BS Zelda no Densetsu, the Silver Arrow has the same role and function as it does in the first game, with it being hidden in Level-8. Unusually, it is hidden in the first room of the dungeon, with a stone statue needing moved to access it.

BS Zelda no Densetsu: Inishie no Sekiban[edit]

In BS Zelda no Densetsu: Inishie no Sekiban, the Silver Arrows are gained on Death Mountain from a monolith that also creates a portal to Ganon's Castle, where they have the same function against Ganon.

Hyrule Warriors[edit]

In Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, a 3D recreation of the Silver Arrow's original sprite, called the 8-Bit Silver Arrow, appears as a variation of Fi's Goddess Blade weapon. In the original, it is the strongest version of this weapon, though in the latter version it is treated as an alternative to its replacement from Hyrule Warriors Legends, the Liquid Goddess Blade.
