Old man, The Legend of Zelda

Spectacle Rock is a recurring mountainous location in the The Legend of Zelda series. It features two large rocks that together resemble a pair of spectacles, hence the name. Similar locations can be found in other games, like Eyeglass Lake and Spectacle Island, the latter of which is indicated to be a different form of the original.

The Legend of Zelda series[edit]

The Legend of Zelda[edit]

Spectacle Rock is found up north, on Death Mountain. Bombing part of its western half reveals the path to the final labyrinth, also known as Death Mountain.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link[edit]

Spectacle Rock, along with the rest of the first game's map, can be found in the southwestern corner of Hyrule, now called Death Mountain Area. The eastern rock is open, leading into the remains of the Death Mountain labyrinth, where Link can find the Hammer. With this, he can destroy the other rock and go into another portion, where he can find a Magic Container.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past[edit]

Spectacle Rock appears at the top of Hebra Mountain, and the "lenses" are now joined. Link must pass it in order to get to the Tower of Hera. To do so, he must travel to the Dark World, where only the shape of its base on the ground is present, and then warp back, thus ending up on top of it.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening[edit]

Spectacle Rock makes a small cameo beside Turtle Rock, and a door through it is necessary to reach the dungeon. Its presence is likely a nod to it and Turtle Rock both being on the mountains in A Link to the Past.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time[edit]

Although never specified as Spectacle Rock, there are two conspicuous miniature volcanoes side-by-side in the Death Mountain Crater that are likely intended to be Spectacle Rock. One of them has a Piece of Heart on top, reachable via Magic Bean sprout. Both of these rocks seem to be traveled inside from within the Fire Temple, with one being optional.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds[edit]

Spectacle Rock appears in the same location as in A Link to the Past. It is now depicted as an irregularly-shaped volcano, with both "lenses" and the area between being a single hole. It constantly rains down Lava Bombs. In the caves underneath are several layers of stairs with boulders constantly rolling down. In the middle, there is instead a cave that can be reached by falling in just the right area that leads between the peaks to a Piece of Heart. Similar to the Dark World, in Lorule it is simply represented by a shape on the ground.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild[edit]

Spectacle Rock is now depicted as a pair of squarish mesas in the Gerudo region with a natural bridge running between them. One of them has the Wasteland Tower on it, and the other a large amount of rocks. Once Vah Naboris is rescued from Thunderblight Ganon, it stands on the one without the tower to fire upon Calamity Ganon.
