Tetra is a young pirate girl with tan skin and blonde hair. She is one of the main characters of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Tetra is the captain of her own ship and the leader of a gang of pirates who explore the Great Sea in search of treasure. Tetra is bossy, strong-willed, and strict but is compensated by her kind nature. In reality, Tetra is descended from the royal family of Hyrule, making her an incarnation of Princess Zelda.

The Legend of Zelda series

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Tetra is first seen in the clutches of the Helmaroc King, which drops her onto Outset Island. Link finds her and starts taking her back to her ship, but the bird returns and snatches his sister Aryll instead. Tetra reluctantly allows Link to join her, taking him to the Forsaken Fortress, giving him a Pirate's Charm to communicate with, and catapulting him inside via a barrel. She relays him instructions up until he reaches the holding cell, where the Helmaroc King notices him, and, at the command of his master, throws him far away.

Tetra and her crew later rob Bomb-Master Cannon's Bomb Shop, telling him that he deserved it due to the exorbitant monopoly prices he had been charging. Tetra notices Link in the rafters, and tells him she is giving him a one-night head start on reaching Jabun to claim his Goddess Pearl. The night ends up being cursed to not end until Link does so, meaning she never actually starts on her voyage.

Once Link reaches the Forsaken Fortress's holding cell again with the Master Sword, the pirates rescue the kidnapped girls and Link defeats the Helmaroc King. Link and Tetra then go to face down Ganondorf, but find the Master Sword's power to repel evil has waned to the point that Ganondorf can hold it by the blade. Valoo and some Rito then fly in, save the two, and destroy the rooftop shipwreck Ganondorf was using as a hideout. Link and Tetra taken to the Tower of the Gods, where are then led by King Daphnes through the old Hyrule Castle into the room previously housing the Master Sword. When Tetra questions how King Daphnes can use the Pirate's Charm, he reveals he actually holds the original one, and that it is a gift passed down through the royal family. He also reveals that a treasured possession of hers is actually the Triforce of Wisdom with a piece chipped out of it; through reuniting these pieces, Tetra becomes Zelda.

At the end of the game after the old Hyrule has been destroyed for good, Zelda changes back into Tetra, and are picked up by her ship, which has her crew, Aryll, and the sages in it. Aryll and the sages return to their homes, while Tetra, Link, and the pirates start off on a new voyage.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures

In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures Tetra plays a major role in a Japan-only mode called Tetra's Trackers. Its exclusivity stems from the extensive use of voice acting, which includes player name, which is easier to program for pronunciation with the Japanese alphabet.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

At the beginning of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Tetra, Link, and the pirates are after the elusive Ghost Ship, said to contain a vast lode of treasure. Tetra is shown to be annoyed when her crew uses royal titles for her, saying that "Tetra" was fine before. They find the Ghost Ship in a large fog bank, and Tetra manages to board while Link slips off, washing ashore of Mercay Island. From this point until the Ghost Ship becomes able to be boarded, loading the game file will begin with a cinematic of Tetra slowly falling into a void while calling for help, eventually getting covered by lines of purple mist. During these scenes, a minor key version of Zelda's Lullaby plays. Eventually, Tetra is found on board the Ghost Ship, apparently having lost a "rough game" with the Cubus Sisters, and is now petrified, her life force drained. Oshus appears and reveals that as the Ocean King, he will be able to restore her if Bellum, who is draining his own life force, is destroyed. During this scene, Linebeck leans on and accidentally knocks over Tetra, before sheepishly standing her back up and trying to look aloof and innocent. For the rest of the adventure, Tetra's lifeless body is stood up in the engine room of the SS Linebeck.

At the end, once Bellum is defeated, Tetra is restored and the pirates find the two asleep floating on the surface of the water. They are pulled back on board and continue sailing to find new adventure.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

By The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Tetra is dead, though her legacy remains. She founded the New Hyrule the game takes place in, and a stained glass window depicts a seemingly older version of her. The Lokomo Anjean knew her, and appears to have adopted some of her mannerisms.

Hyrule Warriors Legends

In Hyrule Warriors Legends, Tetra is a major character in the new chapter inspired by The Wind Waker. She wields a cutlass and pistol in battle. She can also be brought into the previous installment, Hyrule Warriors, as DLC to promote Legends.
