Bob-ombs are walking bomb enemies that appear in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. They originate from the Mario franchise.

History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, Bob-ombs are common enemies who are first encountered in the Chambers of Insight, then later in Death Mountain and Vaati's Palace. Whenever a Link strikes a Bob-omb with their Four Sword, it falls into a dormant, blue state. Whenever a Bob-omb is in this state, they can be picked up and used like regular bombs. To light a Bob-omb's fuse, a Link must either strike them again or throw them at a lit torch. Whenever a Bob-omb's fuse is lit, it runs around the area for a few seconds before exploding, which damages the Links if they are within the blast radius. A Link can instantly detonate a Bob-omb by shooting an arrow at it. If a Bob-omb is struck again once its fuse is lit, it becomes dormant again, but turns red and still explodes after a few seconds. A Link can use his shield to protect himself from the explosion.

In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition, Bob-ombs are also encountered in the Realm of Memories.

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Bob-ombs are encountered in the Cave of Flames, Palace of Winds, and Dark Hyrule Castle. Unlike in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, Link can instantly light a Bob-omb's fuse by striking it once. If he hits the Bob-omb again, it stops moving. Link can use the Gust Jar to suck in a Bob-omb and then launch it at enemies or breakable walls, although using the Gust Jar does not stop the Bob-omb from exploding.
