The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, Manhandla is the boss of the Sea of Trees. It is immobile and has varying amounts of heavily-armored, four-petaled heads depending on the phase of the battle, which also varies depending on which type of key is being collected. Unlike most Manhandlas, their mouths are shown opening upwards. Every head that is destroyed releases 80 Rupees. Nearby are Roc's Capes to help avoid its spiky vines. It also has a pair handles on the sides of its base. Artwork shows it with four heads and at least three handles, though it does not appear this way in-game.

During the first phase, three heads spin around the base rapidly, occasionally opening to a random color of a present Link, who is the only one who can attack it at that point. Attacking each head enough will destroy them, but when there is only one head left, the remaining one will start spitting a spiky ball every time it opens.

In the middle phase, which only occurs when pursuing a Golden Key or Hero's Key, two heads appear and slowly pursue them without opening, spitting seeds. A Link must pull the handles in the side of the base to pull each head's vine in, forcing the flower to open and allowing it to be attacked. Sometimes, the flower will have multiple colors to require each represented Link to attack it at once.

For the final stage, a single flower appears and either starts circling the base rapidly or pursues while spitting seeds. Both handles must be pulled out, forcing the single head into the center and opening it. Once it is attacked enough, the base bursts as the plant is destroyed.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, Manhandlas are designed after the original Manhandlas from the first The Legend of Zelda. Each head is either green, red, blue, and purple, sharing a color with the four Links, each of whom can only attack the head of the same color. A Manhandla is the boss of The Coast and Frozen Hyrule and a mini-boss at Realm of the Heavens.

During the battle, the Manhandla spins around the area, sometimes changing its spin direction. When a Link strikes a head with his sword, it retracts into the Manhandla's base. For each head lost, it moves and spins faster. If a Link strikes a differently-colored head from his tunic, all of the Manhandla's retracted heads pop out then spit fireballs. The Manhandla is defeated if every head is slashed back into its base.
