Tektites are one-eyed spider enemies who appear in nearly every The Legend of Zelda series title, starting with the titular The Legend of Zelda. Their main habitat is at mountain ranges, although they sometimes appear in dungeons as well. Tektites are noted for their high-jumping ability, which often makes it difficult for Link to attack them.

History

The Legend of Zelda series

The Legend of Zelda

Tektites appear in orange and blue, depending on their strength. Aside from the mountains to the North, they notably appear one screen East of the main spawn area, making them one of the first enemies encounterable, along with Octoroks. They hop around the screen, and can jump onto walls just as well as solid ground.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

They only appear in blue. They bob slowly up and down behind their legs (which are actually a separate layered graphic) and occasionally jump.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

They appear in red and indigo on Death Mountain, and are somewhat larger than before.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

They appear primarily near the river South of Tal Tal Heights and North of the Rapids Ride. Their graphic is simplified to showing them at the front, therefore only showing two legs. In DX, they are colored red.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

They appear in red near Death Mountain and blue near Lake Hylia. It is shown that Tektites can float on water due to the latter's location. They hop slowly after Link if they spot him, and will even hop from higher ground onto him.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Only Blue Tektites appear, specifically in Snowhead. In the winter, they sometimes hid under the snow, with only white puffs rising from the spot they hide being visible. Other ones are trapped inside snow boulders.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Ages

They appear in both Holodrum and Labrynna in orange and blue, the latter typically being found in Winter or the past.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords

They appear white with a red spike on top and are randomly-generated. They act like most prior 2D appearances.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures

They resemble a more-detailed version of their A Link to the Past appearance, and act roughly the same. The indigo ones are now blue.

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

They resemble their appearance in Four Swords, but can have a blue spike as well. A Golden Tektite can appear after certain Kinstone fusions.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

They appear in both red and blue and resemble more detailed versions of their Ocarina of Time designs. However, there is actually no difference between the strengths of the colors. Red ones initially appear in a water-filled room in Goron Mines, and blue ones later appear in the same room when Link comes through it again later. Red ones later appear in Northern Hyrule Field. When they are defeated, clear liquid can be shown gushing out from their svered lgs, potentially their blood.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

They appear as entirely red or blue with a large yellow eye. Unlike previous bird's-eye-perspective games, they actively jump at Link. Their design has a spike on top, resembling the Four Swords design.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

They are gray and inhabit caves. They can only be encountered when in the Spirit Train. They can appear in the caves alone, or assisting an enormous Rocktite as it pursues the train.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

They appear only in blue and resemble their A Link to the Past design. They now move their eyes towards Link when they see him. They also appear outside the Eastern Palace.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes

They appear as they do in A Link Between Worlds.

The Legend of Zelda animated series

They appear as four-eyed blue spiders that can spit webs.
