Argoroks are a species of large, red dragons with black-coated armor. One first appears as a boss in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and a few appear as a Giant Boss in Hyrule Warriors.
History
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Argorok is the seventh dungeon boss. It is encountered and fought at the top of the City in the Sky, where it is terrorizing the Oocca. As Link travels through the area, Argorok flies around in the distant background, but this does not affect Link.
During the battle against Argorok, Link has to fight it while withstanding a storm with heavy winds. In the first phase, Argorok attacks Link by diving at him or flapping its huge wings to create a gale. Argorok often flies around the arena to stay out of Link's range. To attack Argorok, Link must use the Double Clawshots to climb the four pillars around the area, attach himself to Argorok's tail, and have the Iron Boots equipped so that its weight pulls Argorok to the ground. When Argorok crashes onto the ground, some of its protection armor falls off. If Link is on the pillar for too long, Argorok flies toward Link and uses its fire breath to damage him. When Link slams Argorok to the ground, more of its armor falls off, exposing Argorok's weak point, a glowing purple spot transfixed to its back.
When the second phase of the battle starts, it begins to rain heavily. Several Peahats in the ground are quickly watered from the rain, and they emerge to propel themselves up to the top of the arena. This way, Link can use his Double Clawshots to move between the Peahats. When Argorok starts to breathe fire in Link's direction, Link must quickly travel around Argorok and use the Clawshot to attach himself to Argorok's back. With his sword, Link must strike Argorok's back. When Link does this three times, Argorok adapts a strategy of occasionally switching directions while breathing fire. Because of this, Link often has to change direction whenever he swings from the Peahats.
After Link strikes Argorok's back three more times, Argorok spurts out fire and tries to fly away, but because of all the damage it took, Argorok falls and explodes in midair in defeat. The final shard of the Mirror of Twilight then appears for Link to obtain.
Hyrule Warriors
In Hyrule Warriors, Argorok is a Giant Boss fought in a few scenarios of Legends Mode. It attacks the warriors by swooping down at them, conjuring tornadoes with its wings, and breathing fire. Because Argorok is capable of flying, it usually falls out of range for most attacks. Argorok's weak spot is its tail whenever it glows blue, something that usually occurs after Argorok breathes fire or causes a tornado attack. The player's warrior can use the Hookshot Weak Point Gauge.
In Legends Mode, an Argorok first appears in "The Shadow King," which takes place at the Palace of Twilight. Zant summons Argorok to help him protect the Gate of Souls. At first, Argorok flies out of reach, even for the Hookshot, and bombards the Allied Base with fireballs. Argorok can immediately conquer a base controlled by Hyrulean Forces just by flying over it. To stop the assault, either Lana or Midna must reclaim the keep beneath Argorok so that the other character can create a Magic Circle to bind Argorok. Argorok quickly breaks free of its chains, although it temporarily retreats before returning once more. Either Lana or Midna must use the same method to thwart Argorok a second time, then use the Fairy Fountain and enlist the Great Fairy's help in bringing Argorok down so that it can be fought normally and not retreat. Because of Argorok's resilience, the Great Fairy uses one of the chains generated by the Magic Circle to the Moon down upon Argorok, who is hit in the back by the Moon's nose. This weakens Argorok enough so that the warriors can finish off Argorok normally.
In "Liberation of the Triforce", a pair of Argoroks appear in Hyrule Field after Ganondorf conquers Hyrule Castle using the full power of the Triforce. The Argoroks are slightly weaker than the one fought in "The Shadow King."
In the Boss Pack, Argoroks appear in "Ganon's Fury." Ganon can use a fireball to expose a Argorok's Weak Point Gauge. Whenever an Argorok is defeated, it drops the Burning Breath Boss Attack Item. The Boss Pack also has an unlockable Argorok recolor of Princess Zelda's Standard Robes (Boss).
In Hyrule Warriors Legends and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, Argorok automatically falls whenever its glowing blue tail is dragged by the Hookshot/Clawshot, as the struggle animation from the original game was removed.
