History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Infernal Dinosaur: King Dodongo is the second boss, appearing in Dodongo's Cavern. He is found in a large, square-shaped room that can only be entered from above, with a pit of lava appearing in the center. King Dodongo has two attacks: breathing a giant fireball that he needs to charge for a few seconds, and rolling around the room, which can be protected against with the Hylian Shield. To damage him, Link needs to throw a bomb or Bomb Flower into his mouth as he inhales for his fire breath. This causes him to be stunned, leaving him open to attack. Eventually, he gets up again and rolls. After enough damage, King Dodongo dazedly rolls into the wall and ricochets into the lava, causing his body to be cooked into solid rock as the lava cools, leaving behind a Heart Container. If Link returns to the room later, King Dodongo's remains will have disappeared.

Hyrule Warriors[edit]

In Hyrule Warriors, Fire Breathing: King Dodongo appears as the first of the game's giant bosses, appearing in the first scenario, "The Armies of Ruin," where Wizzro summons him to the battlefield as a distraction. This King Dodongo has an appearance inspired by the sprites of Dodongos in the original The Legend of Zelda. In a later scenario, "The Water Temple," a King Dodongo using the original design is summoned. The former design also appears frequently in Adventure Mode, with the latter design only appearing in the credits. Hyrule Warriors Legends adds an additional appearance of the latter design into the final Linkle scenario, "The Other Hero," where it is dark and invulnerable until Linkle's compass changes it to normal.

Regardless of appearance, King Dodongo acts the same. He has his original fireball and rolling attacks and can additionally roar, swipe his claws, and rear up before forcefully slamming his front legs down, hurting nearby units with the shockwave. His weakness remains the same, throwing bombs into his mouth when he prepares his fire breath, stunning him and exposing his Weak Point Smash gauge.
