History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess[edit]

“You got the Gale Boomerang! This mysterious boomerang houses the Fairy of Winds.”
In-game description

In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, the Gale Boomerang starts out being in possession of Ook. He uses it to destroy a bridge leading to another area of the dungeon. Later, during the fight against Ook, he uses the Gale Boomerang to try and attack Link. Once Ook is defeated, he runs away, leaving the Gale Boomerang behind. When Link obtains the Gale Boomerang, the Fairy of Winds appears briefly and restores its wind capabilities.

When thrown, the Gale Boomerang generates a small whirlwind around itself. Like the Boomerang in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the Gale Boomerang can target up to five objects or enemies, moving to each in sequence. The Gale Boomerang is versatile, as it can be used to put out fires, cut ropes, reach distant items, and carry bombs toward targets. Unlike other boomerangs, the Gale Boomerang rarely damages enemies, and in most cases, it either brings them closer to Link or stuns them briefly.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Link using the Gale Boomerang in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, the Gale Boomerang is Link's side special move, and replaces the Boomerang from Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Gale Boomerang is replaced back to the Boomerang.

When used, the Gale Boomerang generates a whirlwind, which damages opponents along the way. As it returns, the whirlwind draws in opponents and small items, although this does not damage them. Like the regular Boomerang, the Gale Boomerang returns to Link automatically once it hits an opponent or a wall. The Gale Boomerang can also be thrown at an angle.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Link's first custom variant for this move is Boomerang, which gives it similar properties to Link's previous Boomerang move, meaning that it does not produce any wind or pull in opponents. The second is Ripping Boomerang, which makes the attack slower and gives it a shorter range, but allows it to pass through opponents as it flies out and deals multiple hits rather than having the whirlwind property.

Hyrule Warriors[edit]

In Hyrule Warriors the Gale Boomerang is an item power-up for the Boomerang. Like the Boomerang, it can be used to expose Manhandla's Weak Point gauge and destroy Manhandla Stalks and vine walls. The Gale Boomerang can interrupt the dual sword attack used by Darknuts and Stalmasters.

In the "A Link Between Worlds Pack" and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, Ravio uses the Gale Boomerang as part of his Rental Hammer's moveset.
