- – Error
Error is a minor character who resides in the Town of Ruto in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. He has the same sprite as some of the other Townsfolk.
Originally, when Link speaks to Error, he introduces himself to Link and says, "I am Error." He does not say anything else. Later, when Link visits the Harbor Town of Mido, he can talk to a man there, who advises him to ask Error about the unreachable Island Palace. When Link returns to Error, he reveals the location of a secret tunnel, located south of Kings Tomb, which directs Link to the Island Palace.
Popularity[edit]
Error is famous for his introduction quote, "I am Error," which became an internet meme. Many gamers believed that Error's name was mistranslated or that it was a glitch, both of which have been proven incorrect. In the original Family Computer Disk System release, Error also introduces himself to Link with the same name: the original text (オレノナハ エラー ダ・・・) translates to "My name is Error...".[1]
Error's name is widely believed to have originated from an inside joke between the programmers. There is a character with a similar appearance, named Bagu, whose Japanese name transliterates to bug. As such Bagu's name likely references a "computer bugs" while Error's name is a reference to computer errors.
