- This article is about the flute appearing in certain The Legend of Zelda games. For information on a generic ocarina in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, where it was known as a flute, see Ocarina.
- Not to be confused with Recorder.
The flute,[1][2] also known as the whistle,[3] is an item that appears in some earlier The Legend of Zelda titles.
History[edit]
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link[edit]
In Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, the flute is the main item of the Palace on the Sea. It is a mysterious instrument that plays the ancient music of Hyrule, causing various events to happen. The flute has two important uses; it is used to defeat a River Devil obstructing a road on the land map and to reveal the sixth palace, Three-Eye Rock Palace, when Link plays the flute at the Three Eye Rocks.
CD-i games[edit]
Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon[edit]
In Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, the flute is obtained in Kobitan after Zelda gives an Arpagos Egg to the starving Makoto. When used, the flute immobilizes all flying enemies for five seconds. It costs five Rubies per use.
A similar item, the Bell, can be obtained in Link: The Faces of Evil. It also freezes flying enemies.
Zelda's Adventure[edit]
- “The flute can be used to calm the savage hiss of a snake.”
- – Yvonne, Zelda's Adventure
In Zelda's Adventure, the flute is given as a gift from Yvonne, a music lover living on the outskirts of Great Wimbich. Its sole purpose is to defeat a Rope west of the town. When used, the flute plays a small tune before the snake bursts into flames and drops the Pyros spell.
