Rā are a type of draconic stone statue that appears as an object, obstacle, and enemy in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, appearing in some capacity at every palace alongside the similar Mau. Most Rā are simply decorative gargoyle heads pointing out east from walls. Occasionally, if Link attacks one with the Magical Sword, it will drop a Magic Jar. Rarely, however, Rā fire energy balls straight at him when he is in the vicinity, and because of the unconventional angles of these shots, blocking them with the Magical Shield can be challenging.
In many palaces starting with the Midoro Palace, blue, free-floating Rā appear. They quickly fly in from offscreen in a wavy pattern, often in rooms with lava-filled pits Link can be knocked into, and often will continue to do so until enough are defeated. Hitting them with the sword halts them, though it takes several hits to defeat one. In the Great Palace, orange ones appear with even more health and attack power that move in wider waves. These ones usually appear in pairs and in rooms with large amounts of vertically-stacked breakable blocks.
