Gooma[1] is a muscular troll fought as the boss of the Palace on the Sea in the Nintendo Entertainment System version of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, replacing a second Helmethead fight from the Family Computer Disk System version. Gooma lacks body armor, though his head is protected by a helmet. He wields a giant spiked flail, which he spins around before abruptly throwing it in front of him and returning it. This attack is quite powerful and can easily take out more than a single unit of Link's health even with a large amount of health upgrades, so he needs to leap away when Gooma winds up to attack. Aside from his attacking speed, Gooma is fairly slow, and can be damaged simply by attacking his front. Gooma is fairly durable, as multiple hits may be needed to reduce his health bar. Once he has taken enough damage, Gooma explodes.

Gooma's artwork is repurposed from artwork made for another enemy, Gūma. As such, there are a few noticeable inconsistencies between the two, notably the sprite having a helmet and humanish face and the artwork having a bare bull-like head. Confusion over this artwork may also be why Gooma was given a transliterated version of the enemy's name.
