Deadrocks, alternatively identified as "Gorons,"[1] are a rocky creature primarily found on Death Mountain, resembling a tan reptile with pointy wings. They run quickly and erratically and deal high damage on contact, but briefly become petrified when attacked. Their name plays off their behavior and may be a pun on the term "deadlock."

History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda series[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past[edit]

Deadrocks first appear on Hyrule's Death Mountain in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. They turn into invulnerable statues when attacked, returning to normal a few moments later. They can only be destroyed by turning them into a slime with Magic Powder or the Quake Medallion.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, Deadrocks appear in the Death Mountain Foothills, and like most small enemies sometimes appear in huge numbers. In this game, their petrified form can be shattered with the Magic Hammer, defeating them.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Deadrocks again appear on Hyrule's Death Mountain. They act the same as in A Link to the Past, though on occasion stone Deadrocks are spawned by falling rocks. Additionally, their statue form can be destroyed by the hammer and bombs.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, Deadrocks appear in the Ice Cavern as well as the Scorching Zone of the Den of Trials. They act the same as in A Link Between Worlds, though they return from being petrified quicker. They can be destroyed by hitting their rock form with the Magic Hammer or by making them fall into a pit. They first appear in the Silver Shrine, where two groups of three are the final obstacle, the latter being on icy floor. In the Ice Temple, a battle against group of five around a group of fragile ice platforms makes up the second area.

Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer featuring The Legend of Zelda[edit]

In Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer featuring The Legend of Zelda, Deadrocks appear in brown and purple in the Cliffs and Desert areas, as well as potentially in Gerudo Ruins. They move after the player every beat. When they are petrified, they can be defeated with an explosion. If the player has the Power Glove, stone Deadrocks can also be picked up and thrown, which can be used to cool lava.
