Vultures are large enemy birds typically found in deserts, circling over the heads of intruders when they approach.

History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past[edit]

Vultures debut in the Desert of Mystery in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. They wait atop cacti until Link approaches, at which point they begin flying in wide circles over him, occasionally circling in close. While this can damage him, they are fairly inaccurate and as such usually miss. Vultures are seen during the ending sequence, where they circle over the Average Middle-Aged Man as he tries to open a box, with the caption of "Vultures rule the desert."

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, Vultures now have green heads and look to the side while at rest. They act similar to before, but are more aggressive in that they stop circling to swoop at the Links directly rather than just circling close. They first appear on the Mountain Path, likely to tie into the presence of the Helmaroc King, and later appear at the Swamp, the Desert of Doubt, and the Dark Cloud.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Vultures again inhabit the Desert of Mystery as well as the Treacherous Tower, using a variation on their attack pattern from Four Swords Adventures. Due to the game being three-dimensional, they are now too high to attack even with ranged weapons until they dive in. Additionally, they face the way they are moving rather than constantly facing the screen. They follow Link even if he is Wall Merged, and take off after him even if he is in that state when he approaches.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, Vultures appear in Infinity Dunes and the Desert Zone of the Den of Trials. Here, they are constantly in flight and alternate between patrolling the air and their behavior from A Link Between Worlds. Due to their altitude, they can be most easily reached with a Totem position or the Water Rod. An enormous, fat Vulture called the Vulture Vizier appears as the miniboss of the Dunes, appearing in Stone Corridors.
