The Shopkeeper blasts Link to death with electricity if Link steals from the shop
- “I wasn't kidding when I said pay! Now, you'll pay the ultimate price!!”
- – Shopkeeper
The Shopkeeper is the operator of the Town Tool Shop in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. He is a bald man wearing a light blue shirt.
The Shopkeeper sells common items (such as bombs and hearts) and two unique items, the Shovel and the Bow. Link can either pay for the item or steal it by sneaking around the Shopkeeper in circles and exiting with the item. If the Shopkeeper notices Link attempting to walk out with an item, he yells at Link, demanding him to pay for the item. If Link re-enters the Town Tool Shop after stealing an item, the Shopkeeper angrily blasts him with a large blast of red electricity in the DX version of the game, and purple electricity in the Nintendo Switch version of the game, accompanied by the boss battle theme. From this, Link loses all of his health, and the player gets a Game Over. Other characters refer to Link as "THIEF" for the remainder of the game. The Shopkeeper does not attack Link on his subsequent visits to Tool Town Shop.
In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, the Shopkeeper appears in the seventh photograph of the Travels of Link. He is behind counter, looking in another direction while Link is stealing an item from the store.
