The Tail Key, also named Tail Cave Key,[1] is the first Dungeon Key that Link obtains in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. It is needed to unlock the Tail Keyhole (formatted as Tale Keyhole in the original and DX versions) to the first dungeon, Tail Cave.
When Link first enters the Mysterious Forest, he is greeted by the Owl, who asks Link if he has ever visited Tail Cave and mentions that its key is located somewhere within the forest. While exploring, Link stumbles upon a Raccoon. Just north of it is a Treasure Chest containing the Tail Key, although the Racoon makes it so that Link cannot go north without being transported to another section of the Mysterious Forest. Link can only access the area by sprinkling Magic Powder on the Raccoon to turn him back into Tarin.
