Richard is a prince who lives in Pothole Field in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. He made his debut appearance as a rival to the main protagonist of the Game Boy title, Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru, released exclusively in Japan.

History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Richard once owned and lived in Kanalet Castle, but his servants rebelled against him and he was driven out, leaving behind his prized Golden Leaves. Because of this, Richard went south of Kanalet Castle to a place named Pothole Field where he built his own house, Richard's Villa.

When Link first encounters Richard, he tells Link that tells him that he needs a key in order to enter Key Cavern. If Link still has BowWow with him, Richard urges him to take it away before they start talking. Richard explains to Link about his situation and how he lost his Golden Leaves. He promises to give Link the Slime Key, allowing him to enter Key Cavern, in exchange for retrieving the Golden Leaves. Link travels to Kanalet Castle and gathers all of the Golden Leaves. After doing so and returning to Richard, he thanks Link and shows him a passageway to the Pothole Field behind his house. Link finds his way through the field and unearths the Slime Key.

In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, when Link approaches the gate of Kanalet Castle, both the photographer and Richard come to see him. The photographer then takes a picture of Link and Richard, who are standing in front of the gate, to add into The Travels of Link album.

Hyrule Warriors Legends[edit]

In Hyrule Warriors Legends, as part of the Link's Awakening Pack DLC, Ghirahim's Standard Outfit (Koholint) is a recolor of his Standard Outfit, and its colors are based on Richard's outfit. Ghirahim's outfit appears as two Fairy Clothing options for Companion Fairies, the Prince's Cape and Prince's Trousers.
