The Village Library, also referred to as the Mabe Village Library[1][2] or simply Library,[3][4] is a small library found on the left side of Mabe Village in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. It has many short few-sentence books which provide gameplay information and hints for Link to progress in his adventure. There are eight tables, each with a book on it, and a few bookshelves are stacked against the wall across from the entrance.

Books[edit]

Selecting the Item That's Right for You[edit]

"Selecting the Item That's Right for You" is a book that explains how the player can access the subscreen to assign a weapon to the X and Y buttons each (or A Button and B Button in the original releases).

Maps and Memories Guide Book[edit]

"Maps and Memories Guide Book", originally known as "Auto Map and Memo Guide Book", tells Link about how he can access the map. In the Nintendo Switch remake, the book also explains about pinning certain locations on the map and revisiting memories, which are exact quotes of information that characters have provided to Link throughout his adventure.

Secrets of the Whirling Blade[edit]

"Secrets of the Whirling Blade" is a book that tells Link how to use the Whirling Blade technique. It also mentions that it is handed down between generations.

How to Handle Your Shield Like a Pro![edit]

"How to Handle Your Shield Like a Pro!" tells of the different ways in which Link can use his shield. It also mentions the Mirror Shield.

Fun with Bombs[edit]

"Fun with Bombs" is a book that tells Link how he can pick up and throw bombs.

The Properties of Warp Points[edit]

"The Properties of Warp Points", originally known as "The Properties Of Warp Holes", is a book that tells Link how he can use the warp points found around Koholint Island.

Atlas of Koholint Island[edit]

"Atlas of Koholint Island" is a book that shows a complete copy of Koholint Island's map, even of areas that Link has not yet visited.

Dark Secrets and Mysteries of Koholint[edit]

"Dark Secrets and Mysteries of Koholint" is a book that reveals the path through the Wind Fish's Egg. At first, Link cannot read the book because its print is too small. At the end of the trading sequence, Link can obtain a Magnifying Lens, allowing him to read it. "Dark Secrets and Mysteries of Koholint" shows a series of arrows that reveals the order of directions that Link must take within the Wind Fish's Egg. In the Nintendo Switch remake, it is the only book besides The Hidden Power of Color that does not have a green cover.

The Hidden Power of Color[edit]

"The Hidden Power of Color" is a red book which exclusively appears in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX and the Nintendo Switch remake. It is on top of a bookshelf, and cannot be reached unless Link uses the Pegasus Boots to ram into the bookshelf, much like the Book of Mudora in the house of books from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The book provides information on how to access the Color Dungeon. The book's text consists only of a few numbers, each associated with a directional arrow.
