Pincers[1] are centipede-like Moldorm enemies which live in holes. Pincers first appear in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and have later appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, retaining their role from their debut appearance. Pincers are named directly for the pincers on their face. Their body is red and made up of circular segments.

History[edit]

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Pincers appear in Ukuku Prairie. If Link approaches a hole with a Pincer, its eyes open visibly from inside for a few seconds. After this, the Pincer lunges out toward Link, who can defeat it by striking it with his sword twice. Link can quickly dodge Pincers by jumping over them using the Roc's Feather. Link can use Magic Powder to freeze a Pincer temporarily.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, Pincers act the same as before, though they have a slightly shorter reach. appear in Spool Swamp and one room of the Lost Woods. During fall, leaves sometimes cover their holes; in such cases, if Link approaches a hole with a Pincer, its eyes appear over the leaves, which are knocked away once the Pincer emerges.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages[edit]

In The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, Pincers only appear in Jabu-Jabu's Belly, where they appear in small holes regardless of the dungeon's water level. As such, their eyes sometimes poke out from the water's surface.

Profiles[edit]

  • Nintendo Player's Guide: "These opportunistic creatures live in holes. When you draw near, they extend their long necks and try to take a bite out of you. Use your Sword."
  • The Great Hyrule Encyclopedia: "Native to Koholint Island, Pincers live and hunt from small holes in the ground. When a potential meal walks by, they spring from their hiding spots and snatch their prey with powerful pincers."
