- – The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
The toadstool, also identified as the Sleepy Toadstool or sleepy toadstool and alternatively the Sleepy Mushroom[1][2] or Sleepy 'Shroom[3], is an item found in the Mysterious Forest in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. It is an ingredient that the Witch needs to create Magic Powder. After Link collects a toadstool, another appears in its place, so Link can pick it and give to the Witch for more Magic Powder.
The toadstools cause unusual side effects if eaten, and Tarin admits his last memory before transforming into a raccoon was biting into a toadstool. In official artwork, Tarin is shown to like toadstools, as he has several of them in his backpack or holding one or a few in his hand. Tarin's appearance is based on Mario, so the toadstool likely references the mushroom element which appears throughout the Mario franchise.
If Link wins a Magic Powder from the Trendy Game, the toadstool does not appear in the Mysterious Forest.
