If the Shopkeeper notices Link attempting to shoplift, he demands Link to pay for the item. Link cannot leave the shop if the Shopkeeper notices him carrying an item. If Link successfully steals an item and re-enters the shop, the Shopkeeper angrily strikes him to death; this event only occurs once.
In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, the seventh photograph in The Travels of Link is of Link shoplifting from Town Tool Shop. The photo is added to the album if he successfully walks out the shop with an item.
Items for sale
The Town Tool Shop sells both common and unique items, which appear on the wall at the opposite side of the entrance. To buy an item, Link must pick it up and carry it over to the Shopkeeper. If Link does not have enough Rupees, he cannot buy the item.
If Link purchases a common item and re-enters Town Tool Shop, the same item returns for sale. When Link purchases a unique item, it is no longer sold in the store.

Trivia
- In Link's Awakening DX, the photograph in The Travels of Link has a few posters on the wall. At the very left one advertises a sale on Bombs. The other two posters are in Japanese, even in overseas releases of the game. From left to right, the posters roughly translate to "Shoplifting prevention" and "Shoplifting is a crime" respectively.[1]
- In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, while Link is inside Town Tool Shop, the sprites for the Shovel and the Bow are silver in place.
- The items for sale do not appear on the wall in the scene where the Shopkeeper zaps Link to death.
