Bombers[1][2], formerly known as Zirros[3], are flying mushroom-like enemies that appear in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. As their name suggests, Bombers attack by throwing down bombs at Link. Bombers have a brown stem with small feet and glowing, yellow eyes and move around somewhat erratically. In their more recent appearances, Bombers are depicted as wearing a green cap with yellow spots.

History

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Zirros have two color variants, blue and green, both of whom only appear in the Dark World. They are found at the Ice Lake. If Link tries to slash his sword at a Zirro, it swiftly dodges the attack, although Link can strike them if he moves quickly enough. Both Zirro variants can be defeated with the Hookshot or from a Silver Arrow.

Blue Zirros only attack by swooping into Link. With the Master Sword, Link can defeat a blue Zirro by striking it twice, or instantly with the Tempered Sword or Golden Sword. Green Zirros are weaker than their blue counterpart, because the Master Sword can defeat them with one hit. To compensate, green Zirros have the ability to spit seed bombs, which deal two hearts of damage to Link if hit.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Bombers attack by randomly dropping bombs on the overworld, which is comparable to how Green Zirros spit seed bombs in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Like their debut appearance, Bombers fly out the way if Link attempts a sword attack. If Link is quick enough, he can defeat Bomber by slashing it three times with his sword, or twice with the Koholint Sword. He can instantly defeat Bombers with the Boomerang, an arrow, or the Magic Rod. If Link sprinkles Magic Powder on a Bomber, it turns into a fairy.
